Facility planning began during the 2015-2016 school year. The Brookings School District conducted an RFP (Request for Proposal) to hire a company to assist us with our facility planning. Though the RFP process, TSP was hired.

Among items that the district is working on in the 2016-17 school year is a comprehensive facility plan to address both immediate and long-term facility needs for the communities served by the Brookings School District.  A recent study conducted by the South Dakota State Demographer on behalf of the Brookings School District indicated that the immediate economic region will continue to grow.  As a result, estimates suggest that the Brookings School District could add over 550 students over the course of the next 10 years.  Clearly, the district must plan for the projected growth both in terms of the facility capacity and in terms of the programming opportunities the district wishes to provide students and the community well into the future.

As the district prepares for the future, the goal and objective of the Brookings School District is to be thoughtful and intentional in our efforts to plan for the community and regional growth as we provide educational services and opportunities within the district.  This initiative of the Brookings School District will assure that the comprehensive facility plan will be the most appropriate and effective one possible and meets the immediate as well as long-range needs of the Brookings School District.
