Amber Bates is a career advisor for the Brookings School District. Career Launch, has been established under the leadership of Governor Dennis Daugaard through Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR) and Department of Education (DOE).
Career Launch will provide career exploration services to both middle and high school students, as well as opportunities to gain workplace experiences for high school students. Career Launch partnered with four school districts in Spring 2018 (Brookings, Yankton, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls).
The goal of Career Launch is to help increase student awareness about career opportunities right here in South Dakota so students can make an educated decision about their future. Career advisors also act as a liaison between businesses and students to work towards creating a skilled workforce. Career Launch connects students with meaningful work experiences such as job shadows, industry presentations, and industry tours while also providing businesses an opportunity to invest in youth. This program hopes to show students there are multiple pathways to success.
