Brookings High School is a four-year comprehensive public institution serving approximately 900 students from Brookings and the surrounding area. In addition to Brookings High School, students have access to the Career and Technical Center (CTE), the credit recovery program and the Alternative Learning Center (ALC) for students requiring self-contained instruction at the high school level. In addition an alternative high school, and opportunities through our concurrent program with South Dakota State University.
The school is accessible to individuals with limited mobility. Each classroom is technologically advanced with district wide phone network and Internet wiring as well as multiple wireless access points. A majority of our teachers take advantage of wireless tablet computer to enhance instruction through presentation hardware installed in the classrooms. The school is on a traditional schedule with seven 50-minute class periods and five minute passing time.
Brookings High School’s staff consists of a principal, vice principal, activities director, three counselors, one librarian, and 60 teachers, plus 4.5 secretaries, and numerous aides. A school nurse and school psychologist is available. The district faculty averages 13.35 years of teaching experience with approximately 39 percent holding masters degrees or higher.
